D. B. Lay Funeral Held Thursday At La Vernia Cemetery
289

Dan B. Lay, 82, for many years a well known and highly esteemed citizen of Wilson County, died at a San Antonio hospital Wednesday, June 29, 1949, following a month’s serious illness.
He had been in failing health for more than a year at his home in Sutherland Springs and his condition gradually grew worse during the past few weeks.
Religious rites were held at La Vernia Thursday with burial in the La Vernia cemetery at 4 o’clock. A large crowd attended the funeral.
Mr. Lay was County Commissioner of Precinct No. 3 for a number of years and was a member of a pioneer family of that section.
A good man and a useful citizen, he was always interested in the welfare of his county and its people. As a county commissioner, he was ever alert to the best interests of the tax payers and was fair and considerate in his dealings with his fellowman at all times.
The entire county mourns the passing of Dan Lay and to the bereaved members of his family the Chronicle-Journal joins with his host of friends in all walks of life in extending expressions of deepest sympathy.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lillie Lay; three daughters, Mrs. Howard Burris of San Antonio, Mrs. Mina Harbin and Mrs. William Mitchell of Los Angeles, California; two sons, W. L. Lay of San Antonio and D. B. Lay, Jr. of Houston.
Notes for Lillie May (Spouse 1)
On the 1900 census it was reported that her mother was born in LA and her father in VA.
