Note added by Clayton Heathcock, 7 November 2016: Y-chromosome DNA evidence strongly suggests that the biological father of William Washington Grice was a Hathcock man living in Elbert Co GA at the time Gabriel Grice deserted his wife and moved to Louisiana. I speculate that this was John Hathcock Sr. but it is also possible that it was one of his sons.

The following is research of Randall Alford:
1031782: Delilah Smith, b. ca 1782 (1780-1790), SC. Although not proven, but based on the preponderance of evidence, it is believed that Delilah Smith was the d/o Alexander Smith, RWS, b. 1759, (Muddy Creek?), York Co., PA; d. betw. 1851-60, Meriwether Co., GA. Records indicate that Alexander Smith was a son and legatee of Nathaniel and Sara Smith of Elbert Co., GA. Nathaniel served as a Justice of the Peace (JP) in Wilkes Co., GA.
Elbert GA Will B-095:

Exr: sons Alexander and Stephen
Wit: Samuel Woods, JP; Samuel Patton
Note: Samuel Woods married Elizabeth Patton, sister of Samuel Patton who married Catherine Eberhart, d/o Jacob Eberhart—families connected to the Smith-Grice lines)
Note: Alexander Smith must have named a daughter after his sister Delilah Smith Winn.
Note: Delilah Smith Grice named a son Nathaniel after her grandfather Nathaniel Smith.
Note: My grandmother (RLA) Lela Grice Alford was probably named after her 2nd greatgrandmother Delilah Smith Grice. Lela is a corruption of De-lilah
