"Mr Percy Van Dorn had his horse thrown by a cow which he had roped. The horse in falling fell upon the rider causing injuries from which he died the second day. Mr. Van Dorn was about 22 years of age, the son of General Earl Van Dorn of Confederate notoriety, who distinguished himself for galantry at Holly Springs and met an untimely end at hands of Dr. Peters."
