The birth state given by Tom Graham346,885 is problematic as there is not evidence that John Hathcock Sr. was in Alabama as early as 1805. Indeed, in 1805 Alabama did not exist as a separate entity but was part of the Mississippi Territory.

Alexander and Rebecca Stacy moved to Tennessee and were listed in Hardeman Co in the 1830 census. After Rebecca’s death, Alexander Stacy moved to Natchitoches Parish LA. There his and Rebecca’s first child, Martha Anne Stacy, married Joseph William Gardner of Tennessee. In the 1850 census of Natchitoches Parish, Alfred Hathcock, Alexander Stacy, and Joseph Gardner are all listed in the same area.346

"In 1865 Alexander Franklin Stacy made a trip to Texas to find a place to locate. He went to Concho County, which adjoins Tom Green County on the east. He contracted pneumonia and died there in August of the same year, and is buried at Eden, about 45 miles southeast of San Angelo."
