Chester Arthur Compton 53 years old, departed this life on Friday, 4 August 1944 at his home near Faubush, Kentucky following a serious illness of 2 weeks. He had been in ill health for 18 months. He was born near Faubush, Kentucky on 5 February 1891, a son of the late Silas Monroe Compton and Rosa Frances Warner and had resided in Pulaski County, Kentucky his entire life. He was very well and favorably known throughout his community and was respected by all who knew him. He was a successful farmer for many years and enjoyed being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.
He was survived by his wife Hattie C Bocook Weddle whom he married 8 June 1908 in Scott, Tennessee, USA, per Tennessee State Marriages, 1780-2002; 5 sons; Willie Compton of Indiana, Huey Glenn Compton and Wilford Compton both of whom were in the US Army at the time of his death, Jessie Compton and Arthur Compton, both of Faubush, Kentucky; 3 daughters; Lela Broome of Detroit, Michigan, Anna Brown of Indiana and Christine Compton of Faubush, Kentucky; 5 brothers; Minnie Elmo Compton of Nancy, Kentucky, Carthal Leon Compton of Faubush, Kentucky, John W Compton who was in the US Navy in California at the time of his death, Herschel Glenn Compton of the US Navy on duty in the Pacific Ocean at the time of his death, and Brent F Compton of Detroit Michigan; and 3 sisters; Eula Barker of Humboldt, Iowa, Helen Barker Faubush, Kentucky and Mattie Wilson of Nancy, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, 6 August 1944 at the Faubush Baptist Church with Rev. Bert Whitaker officiating.
Burial followed in the Weddle Cemetery in Pulaski County, Kentucky.
