Curiously Bird Griffin(Sr.) was listed as having married within the year but this contradicts the marriage index and license of Feb 23, 1924, unless for some reason they divorced and remarried.

Bird Griffin was possibly a Justice of the Peace and that certified the marriage of Richard Marlow, Sr. and Susan Ann Powers.

My ancestor, Bird Griffin b. 8 May 1803 in Wilkes Co., GA, lived in Bibb and
Perry County, Alabama most of his life. His father was Benjamin Griffin who
was born in Halifax County, Virginia in about 1773, according to family oral
tradition. It appears to me that Benjamin was the son of Benjamin
Griffith/Griffin who lived in Bedford and Halfax Counties, Virginia. About
that time the family began to spell the name Griffin instead of the previous
Griffith. Benjamin Griffith was the son of George and Margaret Griffith of
Bedford County, VA, and George was probably the son of John Griffith of
Bedford County.
On the VA Tithe List of 1748, "John Griffith, last from Wales in the
Kingdom of Great Britain, came into Court and made oath that he imported
himself into this Colony thirty years ago and that this is the time he
claimed his importation rights." Feb. Court 1749. Order Book 2, Page 10
Source: Mecklenburg, Virginia Tithe List.
The 1782-1787 Virginia taxpayer list shows the following:
Griffith, George Sr., 1-0, Bedford,
Griffith, Benjamin 1- , Bedford;
Griffith, John ---Bedford;
Griffith, William 1, Bedford.
Benjamin and his mother Margaret were Patriots and supplied soldiers in the
Revolutionary War.
I would like to find links to the Bird Griffin who lived in Halifax County.
I suspect that my Bird was named for one of those Birds. And perhaps th
were all descendants of John Griffith who came to Virginia Colony from Wales
in 1719
