F. E. Stiles Williamson Co. Pioneer Dies1453 Francis Elmo Stiles, son of the late F. N. Stiles of Thrall one Of the first pioneers of Texas, died in a local hospital Tuesday night following a lingering illness.
Mr. Stiles, a retired cotton buyer, was born in ’Williamson County February 1, 1875. He owned one of the first cotton gins and compresses in this part of the State. Besides his cotton business he erected the Thorndale water tower and gave the town its first water system. Mr. Stiles served as trustee on the Public School board for fifteen years before moving to Taylor in recent years. He also was a Mason and a Shriner.
Survivors are his wife, the former Miss Carra Vaughan of Lockhart, three daughters, Mrs. Claude W. Patterson of Taylor, Mrs. Charles E. Southern of Burton, and Mrs. Walter J. Beck of Houston; three sisters, Mrs. Villa Johnson of Thrall, Mre Lois Masten of El Paso, and Mrs. Edwin Wilkins of Upper Montclair, N. J.; one brother, Cecil Stiles of Thrali and three grandchildren, Nancy Carra, Robert Stiles, and Charles Vaughn Patterson of Taylor.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at three o’clock at the Condra Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Frederick J. Ross, pastor of the First Christian Church, and the Rev. R. H. Boyd, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be made in the Taylor City cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Alva Stiles, Sam Easley, V. A. Southern, Ernest Williams of Taylor, and Bert Eilliott and Norman Clement of Thorndale.
