Notes for Hardy (Spouse 1)
Following from a descendant of Hardy Jones:1319

After the War with Mexico Hardy was discharged from the army as a second lieutenant in 1848. I have no record for him until 1855 when he bought land in Limestone County, TX, near Mt. Calm. This is when he was married to Martha Caroline Blackburn. She died and is buried there in 1880. Hardy in 1855 or so operated the first general store in Mt. Calm and he was the first postmaster of that community. Hardy was not in Shelby County where he enlisted and where his father lived at the time of the 1850 census. Hardy lived in Mt. Calm until after Martha died. Hardy married Polly Ann Levina Sparks in adjacent Hill Co. TX in 1881. She is my g-grandmother.

Now her family has proved impossible for me to trace. The parents of Polly Ann "Levina" were J.C. Sparks, born in March, 1828 in South Carolina and Polly Ann Rhodes. The LDS site lists his name as J. Coleway Sparks and I contacted the contributor and he did not have a record of how he obtained the name Coleway. My grandfather, his son, refers to him one time in passing as "Calvin" Sparks. The Sparks family Bible states that "J.C." married Polly Ann Rhodes in August 1852. Their second child, my g-grandmother "Levina" was born in Tennessee in May of 1857. "J.C". and Polly Ann Rhodes had nine children but only James G. Sparks reached the age of 21. He died in 1895 and was buried by Levina in Center, TX. However "J.C." Sparks died in July of 1877 and is buried (or at least a marker is present) along side his wife and his daughter Levina, all also in Shelby County. His grave marker shows him as James Calvin Sparks. The Rhodes family I can trace to 1635 in Virginia but I can find nothing at all about "J.C."
