Notes of Roquey Jobes:
199Perhaps Benedict Hobbs was murdered: his brother Preston Hobbs was waylaid and murdered in 1872 near Guadalupe County, Texas near where the family lived. Another brother Lawson Hobbs (on behalf of his mother Anna) in a letter to P. H. Baker, Commissioner of Pensions office (War 1812), dated May 10 1873 stated "in addition to Preston's murder, Anna Hobbs has two other sons waylaid and killed in the South".
It is conceivable some of these deaths may have been feud related as the Sutton-Taylor feud was in full swing at this time in the area and family had connections.
In Joseph Hobbs will of 1863, filed in Guadalupe Co., TX, where heirs are referenced the following is found: "and Sarah E. Jobs daughter of B. J. Hobbs Deceased." (Sarah E is the only grandchild listed in the Will, and probably the only child of Benedict. She was entitled to her deceased father's share of Josephs Hobbs estate).
