In the Wilson Co., TN, Court Minute Books, there is an entry on May 7, 1819, when William BABB and his wife, Ruth BABB, sold land in Sampson Co., NC, to Henry HUNT. The land was part of the estate of Leban TAYLOR, deceased, and Ruth was one of the heirs. Laban, James, and Jonathan TAYLOR all appear in the 1784 tax lists of Sampson Co. I am doubly descended from Ruth Ann Taylor Powell BABB (her great-grandson, John Michael POWELL, married her great-granddaughter, Nancy Emmaline WINFORD (a BABB descendant). Henry HUNT and Hardy HUNT married sisters of Ruth.

1798The relationship to Laban Taylor is still unclear. Laban Taylor was a Member of the House of Commons from Sampson Co NC in 1793.

brobpat@aol.com I am seeking information on the ancestors of WILLIAM POWELL who died in Franklin Co., NC, by the June Term 1786, when HARDY HUNT, administrator of his estate, presented an inventory of the estate. HUNT was his brother-in-law, both men having married TAYLOR women, WILLIAM's being RUTH ANN TAYLOR (1756-1835), daughters of JOHN TAYLOR. WILLIAM and RUTH ANN had two children, both wards of HARDY HUNT as their guardian: JOHN and MARY. RUTH ANN shortly after WILLIAM's death married as her second husband, WILLIAM BABB (1763-1819), son of JOHN BABB of Franklin Co., NC. The BABBS took the two POWELL children and moved to Wilson Co., TN. JOHN POWELL (b. 1783) married ELIZABETH ASBURY TARVER, and their grand- son, JOHN MICHAEL POWELL (b. 1841) married NANCY EMMALINE WINFORD (b. 1847), the gt-granddaughter of WILLIAM and RUTH ANN TAYLOR POWELL BABB, via their eldest child, ELIZABETH BABB (b. 1787). JOHN MICHAEL and NANCY EMMALINE were my great-grandparents.
