The name of this ancestor is not known. He most likely lived in Old Brunswick Co VA. It is speculated that he was the father of Edward and Joseph Hathcock, two relatively well-documented men who owned substantial properties within a few miles of each other in the mid 1700s. He could be the son, or possibly the grandson, of Thomas Heathcock, who came to Virginia in June 1635. Possibly this man was Walter Heathcock, who is mentioned as heir in the 1670 will of Francys Heathcock (see below).
It is also possible that Edward and Joseph were cousins instead of brothers. However, since they were born only 65 years after the first Heathcock immigrated to America, they must have been close relatives--no further than 2nd cousins.
Early Hathcocks:527 The first Hathcock emigrant to America appears to have been
Thomas Hathcock, who departed London in the summer of 1635 and arrived in America on the ship Paule. This first immigrant was an indentured servant to William Stone and his brother Andrew Stone, of Northampton County, Virginia. William Stone patented 1800 acres on 4 June 1635.

484The following is found on an internet site2230 but without furher source documentation. It is copied here but I do not take much of this seriously:
“Left England Friday July 6,1635, from Gravesend Port. == Arrived at NorthHampton Va Aug. 1, 1635. ==Arrived on Ship Paul. ==Was a member of the Gravesend Church of England==,Records can be found in Church records there. ==.Fathers name was John Hathcock mother Mrs Elizabeth Hathcock. == At this time I can find only Heathcock family in England records. There are alot of that spelling there today. The history shows Hathcock was first spelling all Heathcock spelling in England is known as nickname. It was not untill 1883 they had a Census in England. All records were kept by the Church Of England. Thomas came to USA as a indentured servent to William Stone of Northhanpton County Virginia. It is beleived he never left Virginia and lived to be very old.”
The arrival date in NorthHampton VA and the fact that he was imported with others as an indentured servant by William Stone are supported by rigorous data. I can find no evidence that he was a member of the indicated church. On 11 May 1670, in Lancaster Co VA, the Last Will and Testament of a
Francys Heathcock was recorded. This recording reads:
“A probate of ye Last Will and Testament of Francys Heathcock (deceased) is granted unto said oath heard according to ye honor of said Will. Thomas Marshall and John Upshar are ordered to appraise the said estate and to be sworn by the next Justice and proven in witness thereof to be exhibited to the next court.” The book abstract to this will reads “to Walter heir.” Unfortunately, this particular will was not found in the Archive Will Index.
528 It has been speculated by Douglas Hathcock that Francis Heathcock may have been a son of the Thomas Hathcock who came to Virginia in 1635.
It is not clear if this Francys Heathcock was male or female. Thomas Heathcock, the immigrant, was 21 years old when he left London in 1635. Therefore, at the time of the Francys Heathcock will, Thomas would have been only 56. If Francys Heathcock was his widow, then Thomas probably died before this time, and she would have been rather young.
A second
Thomas Heathcock came with a group of 116 other immigrants on 2 Oct 1672.
2231 A patent of 5800 acres on the upper part of Northampton County, was patented to William Wittington with this group of immigrants. William Wittington was an early inhabitant of the Eastern Shore of Virginia and patented other large blocks of land for importation of immigrants.
A
William Heathcoat was one of 12 immigrants brought to Elizabeth City Co on 28 Oct 1697 by Henry Royall, who patented 586 acres on their behalf.
1658On 16 Aug 1715, Martine Sorrell patented 280 acres in James City Co, Wilmington Parish, being the plantation upon which he lived. The patent was for 80 acres, part of 497 acres granted to Richard Hamlett & now the inheritance of said Sorrell, and 200 acres for importation of 4 persons, including
Henry Heathcock.
1658On 28 Sept 1732,
Joseph Heathcock patented 200 acres in Brunswick Co on the South side of Falling Run.
1658 This was the first Heathocck land record in America.
Paul Heinegg has written that
Edward Hathcock was in Henrico Co VA in 1710-21 and cites “Henrico County Orders, 1710-4, 85, 198” and “Henrico County Minutes 1719-24, 142.”
