Merle Heathcock Baragar, longtime resident of Floresville, Texas, passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at 7:10 a.m., in San Antonio at the age of 71 years, 4 months, and 14 days.
Merle was born on June 26, 1937, in San Antonio, the daughter of Wesley and Dorothy Popham Heathcock. She graduated from high school and was retired after 33 years in civil service. Merle married Robert Baragar on Oct. 29, 1980. She was an avid reader who enjoyed collecting penguins, going to Vegas, and participating in the Rod Run with her husband, Robert, in their ’47 Chevrolet. Purple was Merle’s favorite color, and she enjoyed discussing politics. She especially enjoyed caring for her mother. Merle loved her pets, Princess, Pepper, Sweet Pea, and Daisy Mae.
Her father, Wesley Heathcock, preceded her in death.
Merle is survived by her husband of more than 28 years, Robert Baragar; her mother, Dorothy Heathcock; her mother-in-law, Pauline Baragar; her sons, Todd Landry and Tracy Landry; her daughters, Dina Beckermann and husband Daniel, and Shelley Martellaro; her grandchildren, Marrah, Morgan, Megan, and Molly Beckermann; and her sister, Dorothy Johnson and husband Emery.
A graveside funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.
Interment followed in the Floresville City Cemetery.
