Although no proof can be offered at this time, John Hathcock Jr. was most likely the son of John Hathcock Sr. and was born in Warren County, North Carolina, about 1784. John Hathcock Jr. first appears for certain in the 1810 census of Warren County, North Carolina. The Warren County marriage records indicate that a John Hathcock married Elizabeth Bobbitt on 19 February 1805.

In 1811, John Hathcock Jr. is recorded as having been a purchaser of items from the estate of Ann Hazelwood on 15 March.
A few years later, John Hathcock Jr. and George Hathcock, believed to have been brothers, are found on a 1813 tax list of Captain Snow 's District of Warren County. In the same year, a John Hathcock appears on the tax list of the Warrenton District and another John Hathcock appears on the tax list of the River District. This then accounts for three different John Hathcocks living in the same area at the same time. In 1814, they all appear again in the same districts except George Hathcock, who is not found on the 1814 tax lists. It is observed. that John Hathcock and George Hathcock appear on the 1812 tax list livirng in the Fishing Creek District and John Hathcock Sr. appears in the 1811 Tax List of the Fishing Creek District. It might be concluded that John Hathcock Sr. moved to the Warrenton District about 1813 and his sons moved from the Fishing Creek District to Captain Snow's District about the same time. The John Hathcock of the River District is believed to have been a cousin of John Hathcock Jr., being a son of Jesse Hathcock. Jesse was a brother of John Hathcock Sr., both sons of Joseph Heathcock of Greensville County, Virginia (see Section 2.1).

Peter Haithcock, a veteran of the War of 1812 and a son of John Hathcock Sr., was born in 1785 and married Susanna Moore in Warren County in 1818. They lived in Guilford County in 1850. He may have lived in the household of Peggy Haithcock in 1820. His son Thomas, born in 1825, married Saluda Ann Patterson in Warren County on 7 August 1844. They also later lived in Guilford County. Clearly, some of the ages in the above census are inaccurate. Peggy Hathcock born in 1777 and would have been 63 years of age in 1840. However. the census shows her as 30-40 years of age. The Thomas Haithcock is the son of John Haithcock Jr. (or Hathcock) and Elizabeth Bobbitt, who were married in Warren County 19 February 1805. Thomas Haithcock married Matilda Capps 1 December 1841 in Warren County.
The William Hathcock is another son of John Hathcock Jr. and Elizabeth Bobbitt. William married Nancy Capps 23 December 1836 in Warren County. The Daniel Hathcock is son of John Hathcock and Amy Shearrin. This John Hathcock is believed to have been the son of Jesse Hathcock and grandson of Joseph Heathcock of Greensville County, Virginia. Daniel married Clementine Morris in Halifax County, North Carolina, in 1835. John Hathcock was his bondsman (see Section 3.4.2).

Although no proof can be offered at this time, John Hathcock Jr. was most likely the son of John Hathcock Sr. and was born in Warren County, North Carolina, about 1784.
