Notes for Ellis J. Alexander
Alexander, Ellis J. "Alec" Lt. Col., USAF (Ret.) (Age 86) of Austin, TX, passed away on January 2, 2008 in an Austin Nursing Center. Alec was born on February, 22, 1921 in Sioux City, Iowa to parents James Madison Alexander III and Corda Peale. He was a Pilot for the United States Airforce who flew B24 Liberators for the 8th Air Force in Europe during WWII. Alec was a 3rd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite and active in the Lodge in Moville, Iowa. He was a founding member of the WWII Memorial, the Sierra Club, the National Rifle Association and a lifetime member of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Although he never had one, Alec loved motorcycles or anything else that went fast. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will leave a long legacy of "Daddaw-isims" for generations to come, the final of which must be, "Wow! What a Ride!" Alec is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jewell Alexander; son, Ellis Jay Alexander Sr. and wife Margot of Manassas, VA; grandchildren, Ellis Jay Alexander Jr. and wife Janelle of Ogden, UT and Paul Alexander and wife Kelly of Manassas Park, VA, and great grandchildren, Ellis Jay Alexander III, Karsen Alexander and Madison Alexander. He is also survived by his brother Jack Alexander and wife Lyn of Broomfield, CO, as well as, many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Austin. Committal Services and interment will follow at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Memorial Park.

Jimmie Jewell Alexander1623 Jimmie Jewell Alexander, 86 of Austin passed away on Friday, April 10, 2009 in Austin. Jewell was born on September 25, 1922 in Smithville, Texas. She was the daughter of Amos Melvin McMeans and Jimmie Jewell Bartlett McMeans. Jewell received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity University in San Antonio and went on to earn her Master of Arts from the University of Northern Colorado in Greely. While in school she discovered a love of debate that would follow her throughout her life. She met Ellis J. "Alec" Alexander in Pampa, Texas and went on to marry him in 1944 before he received his pilots wings and went to serve in the Army Air Corps and later in the Air Force. Jewell traveled with her husband during his military career and worked as a high school English teacher wherever they were stationed. Jewell was also a Drama Teacher in Virginia and was awarded the Virginia State Teacher of the Year award in 1975. She was also an accomplished author and was renowned for her narratives and literary storytelling. Jewell was a very family oriented person who was deeply devoted to her husband and family. She enjoyed sewing and knitting, loved literature and developing her collections of books and road runners and her church. Jewell will be remembered as a Genteel, giving and passionate woman who was the picture of a vibrant Texas Lady. Jewell was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life Alec. She is survived by her son, Ellis Jay Alexander Sr. and wife Margot of Manassas, VA; grandsons, Ellis Jay Alexander Jr. and wife Janelle of Mt. Pleasant, UT and Paul Madison Jones Alexander and wife Kelly of Manassas Park, VA; great-grandchildren, Ellis Jay Alexander III, Karsen Rose Marie Alexander and Madison Anne Alexander; brother, Cecil M. McMeans; and sister, Leola Finger.
