Melba Inez Holland Hardy went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006.
She was born March 13, 1926, in Floresville, Texas, and moved to San Antonio in her early teens.
She was a creative person, working with arts and crafts most of her life. She loved animals and never turned one away. She loved people, also, and was always ready to help anyone in need.
Another hobby was her plants. She had a green thumb that made plants thrive in her care.
She went to work for Spartans on Goliad Road late in life, retiring after many years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Wood Hardy Sr.; her father and mother, Stell Holland and Hattie Holland Cook; stepfather Guilford R. Cook; a sister, Lorraine Holland; and a brother, Tommy Stell Holland.
She is survived by her children, Raymond Wood Hardy Jr. and wife Diane, Melba Ruth Hardy, and Tommy Joe Hardy; a grandson, Hazle Graves Hardy and wife Jessica; great-granddaughters Sarah and Erynn Hardy; a sister, Sherron L. Cook; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The family received friends on Thursday, Feb. 23, from 5-9 p.m., in the Roy Akers-Zizik Kearns Funeral Chapels in San Antonio.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Earl Hardy officiating.
Interment followed in San Fernando Cemetery No. 3 in San Antonio.
Serving as pallbearers were David Sawyer, Michael Sawyer, Hazle Hardy, Clarence Dove, Tommy Hardy, and Adrian Waclawczyk.
