Newspaper article re. suicide2935At 9 o'clock Tuesday morning the people of this little town and surrounding community were shock ed to hear that Mrs. Louisa Beckman, wife of G. W. Bcckman, our blacksmith, had committed suicide by shooting herself with a thirty-two pistol. The bullet entered a little above the right eye, causing instant death. There was no cause assigned, except that she had acted rather strange for a short time, which was noticed by some of the neighbors, but Mr. Beckman did not notice anything serious about her actions until that morning, She sent for him to come to the house; he went and was holding the baby in the north room, while she was putting on the little boy's shoes. When she had put them on she closed the door between herself and husband, with a slam and exclaimed, "My God they are after us," and fired the fatal shot before he could get to her. She leaves two little children and a husband to mourn her untimely death. She was a quiet, peaceable woman, and one that seemed devoted to her husband and children. There was no difficulty of any kind existing between her and her husband. She imagined someone was going to hurt her. Mr. Beckman's brother and wife, from Illinois, arrived in time to attend the burial, which took place at t o'clock, Wednesday, at Salem. Uncle Dan Mclntire conducted the services at the grave. Mr. Beckman has the sympathy of the entire community.
Notes for Charlotte (Spouse 3)
Apparently Elizabeth Jewkes Beckman died between the 1910 and 1920 censuses and George married a woman named Charlotte, his 3rd wife.
