Notes for John Williams
John Williams was a member of the provincial Congress that met in Charleston 1/11/1775. He served in the Revolutionary War. During the Revolution his family lived at Laurens County SC., and were members of the Little River Presbyterian Church. His will was probated at Edgefield County South Carolina where he had moved after the War.3026

11 Oct 1798, Edgefield Co., Deed Book 16, page 87-94:

Anne Marie Williams, widow of Major John Williams to the executors, heirs & Legatees of said John Williams deceased. Renunciation of Dower and general release; John Williams, by will signed 9/24/1778 did lend to me during my widowhood land which John Williams, in his lifetime, purchased from Mr. Yarborough 276 acres whereon said John Williams lived at the time of his death, on express condition that in case I the said Anne Marie Williams did not choose to live on said plantation after decease of said husband that I should not have any power or authority to dispose of the same or to rent said plantation but same was to remain to Joseph Williams, son, and one of the devisees and legatees of said john Williams; also said John Williams bequeathed unto me said Anne Marie Williams, land containing 200 acres lying below Martin Twower joining Joseph Colliers land and Wiers Road, together with six Negroes: Rose, Amy, Pleasant, Luce, Easter and a Negro wench at present in the possession of my brother Joseph Gouge of North Carolina; also three horses, livestock, furniture, one hogshead of tobacco, to be delivered to Augusta and to weigh 1000 pounds. Said John Williams made provision that I should within six months after his demise, renounce forever my right or claim of dower in real and personal estate and give discharge against same and accept the legacies in full satisfaction thereof. If I did not comply, said testator by will absolutely revoked said devise unto me. The deceased did by will devise the same provisions among his sons and daughters, share and share alike and made no other provisions for me. I declare myself fully satisfied therewith and hereby devise forever quit claim unto the heirs in said will.
