Mr. R. Blair Savage is an expert on the early Savage family and has published a good book on the subject, “SAVAGE ANCESTRY, Dedicated to Thomas Savage "The Carpenter" and Ensign Thomas Savage; The Search for Their Antecedents and Their Descendants”. Many thousands of Savage families in America are descended from Thomas Savage "The Carpenter" who arrived in the Virginia Colony by 1632 and settled on the Eastern Shore. He is referred to as "The Carpenter" by Virginia historians to distinguish him from "Ensign" Thomas Savage who arrived at Jamestown with Captain Newport and was a close relative of the Carpenter; perhaps his father, or uncle. A history of Thomas "The Carpenter" and 13 succeeding generations is included in the book, SAVAGE IS MY NAME by R. Blair Savage. Twenty years of research culminated in the publishing of this book in 1995. Since that time I have concentrated on determining the father of the Carpenter and on trying to identify the descendants of ROBINSON T. SAVAGE, SR., the great, great grandson of Thomas Savage. Robinson was one of the early pioneers of what is today, Garrett County (formerly part of Allegany County), Maryland. To date my list of his descendants contains several thousand names and is being added to regularly.
