Notes for William Gresham
Sir William inherited the manor Titsey from his father Sir John Gresham b 1492 On his death he willed it to his wife Beatrice [d 1632] The manor went to Sir William's 2nd son, Sir Thomas Gresham ...William excepted the capital messuage and the farm there, which he then gave to his daughter, Mary [b. 1523]{GAWYSI Vol 16 # 1 pg 10 Jan 2001]
Sir William [b 1522] built the manor-house of New Hall. [Ibid pg 11]
Sir John's eldest son William inherited his father's property in and around Titsey and devoted his time to improving the estate and building a new house there. No illustration of the latter exists, as it was largely demolished in the eighteenth century, apart from one small wing at the back which was kept as servants' quarters for the present house at Titsey.[notes taken from History of Titsey on the internet]
