Dr. Robert Hunt Morris3799MEDINA Funeral services for' Dr. Robert Hunt Morris, age 86, will be at 2:00 pm Sunday at the Medina First Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Gay and Rev. John Pippin officiating. Burial will follow in White Rose Cemtery near! Gibson with Replogle-Lawrence Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He died Thursday morning at Jackson Madison County General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Dr. Morris, son of the late Joseph Edward and Bernice Hunt Morris was born in Gibson, Tennessee and graduated from Gibson High School in 1924. He attended Union University and the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis. He served his Internship at Memphis General-Hospital, being the last Intern to serve before the hospital was renamed John Gaston Hospital.
He practiced medicine in Gibson in 1936 & 1937. In 1937 he moved his Practice to Medina. He was on staff at Clemmer's Clinic in Milan, the City of Milan Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital In Humboldt. For a short time he was a partner in the Doctors Hospital in Jackson. He was on the consulting staff of the Jackson, Madison County General Hospital. He was a charter member ot the West Tennessee Consolidated-Medical Assembly, at one time, serving as President, a member of the AMA and a life time member of the Southern Medical Association. In 1967 the Town of Medina honored him with a Dr. Robert Morris Day for his accomplishments. At the time of his retirement in 1970, he had delivered 2500 babies. In 1986 he was given the Outstanding Alumni Award by Union University. He was highly respected by both colleagues and patients for his diagnostic ability and keeping abreast the strides of modern, medicine in his life of service to a five county area.
He was a member of the Medina First Baptist Church. A teacher of the Seekers Sunday School Class. He had been a Deacon and Sunday School teacher since 1938.
He is survived by his wife, a companion and help-mate of 55 years, Lillie May Leake Morris of Medina; a son, Robert Hunt Morris, II of Leander, Texas; four daughters, Mrs. Una Deane Grant of Memphis, Mrs. Trebor Ambrose of Florence, Alabama, Mrs. Brenda Nulter of Huntsville; Alabama and Mrs. Lillie Cate of Paris; seventeen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Guy Morris of Gibson and John Morris of Union City; and a sister, Mrs. Evelyn "Peggy" Key of Jackson.
Dr. Morris' grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Seekers Sunday School Class and members of the Medical Association.
