John Edward Morris, 98, of Union City died March 2, 2010, at his home. Services were at 1 p.m. Friday (3/5/2010) at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Dr. William Sims officiating. Burial will follow in White Rose Cemetery in Gibson.

Pallbearers were Robert Hunt Morris, Larry Baker, Frank Johnson, William Reese, Ray Burden and Bill Flood.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Carlton Sunday School Class at Union City First Baptist Church.

The family requests that memorials be made to Union City First Baptist Church.

He was born Nov. 29, 1911, in Gibson, son of the late Joe and Bernice (Hunt) Morris. He married the former Muzzette Booker Nov. 30, 1939. She died Feb. 22, 2005. He was a graduate of the former Gibson High School and received his degree from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green in 1934. After teaching school for two years, he returned to college and graduated from the former Business University of Bowling Green.

He was a retired employee of Gibson Electric Membership Cooperative, where he was an area supervisor and was employed for 38 years. He joined the staff of the former Sage Furniture and the former Hospital Flower Shop, both in Union City, following his retirement. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he had served in Africa, France and Germany. He was a member of Union City First Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon, and was also an active Mason for more than 75 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Jozette Sitko of Houston; his son, Kenneth Morris of Union City; his brother, Guy Morris of Gibson; five nieces and their spouses, Lillie Katherine and Charles Cate of Paris, Una Dean Grant of Memphis, Treva and Dr. Mel Ambrose of Florence, Ala., Brenda and Ed Nulter of Huntsville, Ala., and Kathy White Miller of San Antonio; his nephew and his wife, Robert Hunt and Jeanne Morris of Medina; and several great nieces and great nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Robert Morris; his sister, Evelyn Key; and two nephews, Frank Morris and Bobby Joe Mincey.3800
