Jake Rice3852 Jake Rice, 87, of 407 S. Moody, died Friday morning in a local hospital following a short illness.
A native of Stockdale, he was born July 18, 1900, to the late James D. and Ella Mae Deagen Rice. A World War I navy veteran, he had been employed as a carpenter before his retirement. Formerly of Kenedy, he had resided in Victoria since 1953.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p m. Saturday at the Rocky Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Pierce officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 4:15 p.m. at the Sutherland Springs Cemetery under the direction of Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
The body will lie in state at the Rosewood Funeral Chapel until noon Saturday when it will be taken to the church for services.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Faupel, Joe Lee Evans, Randy Walker, Paul Tagliabue, Billy Smith and Don West. Lois Baker will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma S. Rice of Victoria; a daughter, Mrs. Lois Baker of Austin; two sons, Jake W. Rice of Stockdale, Raymond Rice of Kenedy; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Rice, Jan. 6, 1988.
Mrs. Lorene Rice3853Mrs. Lorene G. Rice, 67, of Rt. 1, Box 197, died at 10:55 a.m. Saturday in a local hospital .following a five-day illness.
Mrs. Rice was born Sept. 12, 1904, in Karnes County, to the late William Akin and Irene Walker Gorman. She was a member of the Choate Baptist Church, in Karnes County.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Myers Funeral Home in Stockdale with burial in Stockdale Cemetery.
McCabe-Carruth Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Surviving are her husband, Jake R. Rice of Victoria; a daughter, Mrs. Lois Baker of Dripping Springs; three sons, Charles G. Rice of Victoria, Lloyd R. Rice of Corpus Christi and Jake W. Rice of Sutherland Springs; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
