Claude N. Burcky3890 GRAYMONT — Claude N. Burcky, 92, Colorado Springs. Colo., formerly of Graymont, died at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2007) in Colorado Springs.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 3 at Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Pontiac. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service Nov. 3 at the funeral home. Burial with full military rites will be at Rooks Creek Cemetery in rural Pontiac. Memorials in Claude's name may be left to a charity of the donor's choice.
Claude was born May 10, 1915, in Graymont, a son of Albert and Emma Dolton Burcky
He is survived by his children, Claudia (Bill) Garner, Gretna, La.; Ronald (Faith) Fink, Hudson; Peter (Joyce) Burcky, Memphis, Tenn.; Pamela (Tom) Hall, Austin, Texas; Paul (Kathy) Burcky, Florida; Patrick Burcky, Fort Collins, Colo.; and Perry Burcky, Washington, D.C.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one brother, Max Burcky, Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Marie (Ronnow) Burcky; one brother, Voyle Burcky; and two sisters, Fawn Johnson and Gwen Mund-schenk. Mr. Burcky attended Graymont grade school and graduated from Pontiac High School in 1934 and entered the military in 1935. He retired from the U.S. Air Force on May 1, 1970, with the rank of colonel. Claude was a pilot during World War II, serving with the 93rd bomb squad 19th bomb group.
Claude co-piloted the first B-17E bomber from the United States to the South Pacific during World War II. He received the Silver Star and 16 separate decorations by the time he retired. By the end of his flying career, he had flown around the world.
After the war, he spent four years as an inspector and civil engineer. With his expertise with air craft and his aviation experience through his military years, it gave him the knowledge he needed to check hangars and inspect runways to make sure they were safe. After retiring, he settled in Colorado Springs, Colo.
