Robert Whitley3987 WHARTON - Robert Richard "Bob" Whitley, 70, of Wharton died Tuesday in Houston following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Wharton Funeral Home chapel with Donnie Melton officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
He was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Magnet, Texas, to the late Claude Monroe and Mary Elizabeth Holland Whitley. He married Ruby Meadows Dec. 4, 1941 in Wharton.
He was a car salesman for Stigell Motor Co. for 17 years and later for Cochran Motor Co. for 16 years until his retirement in 1988.
He was a Veteran of World War II with the Air Force and was a former member of the Wharton Rotary Club. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Whitley of Wharton; two daughters, Carol Gartsman of Houston and Gail Parker of Baytown; a son, Richard Whitley of Wharton; three sisters, Ruby Irvin of Phoenix, Ariz., Mary Lou Foster of San Antonio and Eula Mae Simms of Smithville; and seven grandchildren.
