SAND FLAT — Services for E.V. "Johnny" Smith, 85, Sand Flat community, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home chapel, Lindale, with the Rev. Kenny Cargill officiating.

Burial will be in Sand Flat Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died April 3 in a Tyler nursing home.

He was bom Nov. 7, 1917, in Osceola and lived in San Angelo prior to moving to the Tyler area in 1961 He served in the Army during World War II, retired from Kimbell Wholesale Grocery in Tyler, and was a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church of Sand Flat community. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Dell Smith in 1993, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include daughters, Barbara Kurtz, Bedford, Judy Rowan, Flint , and Neva Dollar, Tyler; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are grandsons, David Cope, Jerry Fleming, Terry Fleming, Bryan Laird, Kevin Robertson and Mike Rowan.

Family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

SAND FLAT - Services for Mae Dell Smith, 73, Sand Flat, are pending with Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale.

Mrs. Smith died Tuesday afternoon in a Tyler hospital after a short illness. She was born Jan. 7, 1920, in Runnels County and was formerly of Ballinger before moving to Tyler in 1962 and then to Sand Flat in 1980. Mrs. Smith was a housewife and a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, E.V; "Johnny" Smith, Sand Flat; three daughters, Barbara Cope, Liberty, Mo., Judy Rowan and Neva Moe, both of Tyler; a brother, Joe B. Wood, Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Maxine Jones, Kosse, and Willa Roper, Conroe; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends 7-8:30 " p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home.
