NEWPORT NEWS Mrs. Lealer Margaret Hughes, 59, of 5222 Denbigh Parks Drive, died Wednesday in Mary Immaculate Hospital.

She was born in Baltimore. She had been a Peninsula resident for 33 years.

She was an civilian employee at Fort Eustis for 32 years. For 29 years, she worked for Aviation Applied Technology Directorate. From 1982-85 she was head libarian at Fort Eustis. In 1983 she received the Sustained Superiors Achievement Award, in 1983 she received the Commander's Award for Excellence, and in 1985 she received the Commander's Award for Civilian Service.

The Aviation Library was named in her honor this year.

She was a graduate of John Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Survivors include her husband, C.C. Hughes of Richmond; two daughters, Mrs. Marsha Kain of Poquoson and Mrs. Rhonda Pastine of Millersville, Md.; a son, Joseph F. Moore of Chesapeake; her father, Charles H. Wheeler of Baltimore; three sisters, Mrs. Louise George of Newport News, Mrs. Marge Breen and Mrs. Jeanette Meeham, both of Baltimore; and 12 grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Weymouth Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Harland Ogle A private burial will be held on Monday in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to ' 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
