CLARENCE J. GATES 4636WINNFIELD, La., Nov. 1. (Special) — Clarence J. Gates, 42 local postoffice employe and World War veteran, died Sunday at the Veterans' Hospital at Alexandria, and was buried here Monday.
The First Baptist Church here was crowded to capacity during the religious rites by friends and relatives of the deceased. The Rev. H. H. McBride, pastor of the Baptist church, was assisted in the funeral services by the Revs. Alwin Stokes and G. A. Morgan, pastors of the Presyterian and Methodist churches. Following the services at the church interment was made in the Winnfield cemetery. The pall-bearers were Postmaster Hugh Mercer and the following fellow-postal workers: S. E. Jenkins, D. F. Shell, Henry Harlan, Leo Sowers and Eck H. Bozeman.
The deceased is survived by his wife and son, Carol, his father, the Rev. C. B. Gates of Monroe, and the following brothers and sisters: R. W. Gates, Dodson; Houston and Reggie Gates, of Winnfield; Mrs. E. L. Taylor, Sikes; Mrs. J. C. Green, Monroe, and Mrs. Horace Pepper, of Sikes.
