R.C. Weddle, prominent Casey Countian, dies at 834677LIBERTY - Rupert Christopher Weddle, 83, of Liberty Route 1, a prominent Casey County merchant and farm owner for many years, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday at his residence.
He owned the R C Weddle Grocery Store on U.S. 127, south of Liberty, and he farmed hundreds of acres of Casey County land. Both his commercial and farming ventures involved his family. Weddle was also w idely known in Casey County as a stalwart Republican, and his store was a showcase for GOP posters, including ones that promoted Presidents Eisenhower and Reagan.
He never held public office but he was influential in many campaigns "They used to say if they'd get old Rupert for them, they'd win,'' Weddle said in an interview published in the March 25. 1984, edition of The Kentucky Advocate "I never lost a man in my life."
Born April 30, 1901, in Pulaski County, he was a son of the late Marion and Dora Compton Weddle and the father of the late Norma Jean Murphy. He was a member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Price Weddle; two sons, Casey County Attorney James G. Weddle and R.C. Weddle Jr., both of Liberty; a daughter, Delores Sasser of Louisville; two brothers. Leonard Weddle of Liberty and Lloyd Weddle of Hopkinsville; 14 grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren. The funeral will be held at 1pm Monday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Donnie Coffey, Danny Baily and Roosevelt Brown. Burial will be in Casey County Memorial Gardens. Visitation is at the funeral home
