Barbara Blagg Taegel of Little Rock was born October 23, 1930 and passed away November 13, 2017 after extended illness.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mattie Laura Lackey Blagg and Charlie Blagg, and her daughter, Laura Cheryl Taegel. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Susan Taegel West of Perryville, Ark., stepson, Billy Taegel of Anchorage, Alaska, cousin, June Cline of Little Rock, other cousins, and her closest friend and companion of 40 years, Ruth Byrn.
She received her Master's Degree in Physical Education from the University of Arkansas in 1953. In her early professional career she worked at Jefferson Davis High School and Forest Heights Junior High in Little Rock and Louisiana Tech University. She joined the faculty at University of Arkansas, Little Rock (then UALR) in 1959, and retired in 1996 from her position there as Dean of Students in her 37th year of service. She touched the lives of numbers of students in their formative years, guiding them in positive ways, and was beloved by many. During her retirement she enjoyed several years of traveling extensively with friends. She was a lifelong bridge player and had an avid bridge life during her retirement. She was a member and advocate of AARP Little Rock Chapter 34 and served as its President 20012002.
Services will be held on Friday, November 17 at 11 a.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), preceded by visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
