James B. Swinehart, 73, of Salem died Sunday.
He was born in Norwich, Kan., and attended the University of Kansas. He married Marsha Landers on July 25, 1942, in Phoenix, Ariz. He served in the Air Force for 25 years as a pilot, ROTC instructor, squadron commander and command post officer. He retired in 1966 with the rank of colonel and as a command pilot after logging more than 10,000 flight hours.
He was a real estate broker before moving to Salem in 1977. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; sons, James B. II of Lincoln, Neb., Eugene M. of Tacoma, Wash., and Michael R. of Riverside, Calif.; daughter, Marsha Kay of Salem; brother, William Keith of Hilton Head, S.C.; and eight grandchildren.
At the request of the deceased, no services will be held. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
