Notes for Martha A. Sutton
Martha A. Sutton was born circa 1845, in Missouri. She married William D. Casteel, March 1, 1860, in Iron County, Mo. William’s father was born in North Carolina and his mother in Tennessee.
William served as a Private in Company W, First North Missouri State Militia, C. S. A., for 3 years, and 22 days, from Feb. 29, 1862 to Mar. 25, 1865.
The first record of their children is given in the census of 1870, which included three children, one an unnamed daughter, one day old at the date of tile census, July 30, 1870. They either had no children for the first six years, or, as frequently haopened, the "first family" was victim of the many diseases prevalent during the Civil War. Children listed are from the 1870 and 1880 census.

3 1nfant daughter Casteel was born July 29, 1870, evidently did not survive. She was listed only on the 1870 census.
