A devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, Billy “Bill” Wayne Ray, 77, died peacefully at his home in Wake Forest on May 22, 2015.
Born in Franklin County to Wayne and Hazel Oakley Ray, Bill worked 33 years for the State of North Carolina before retiring as the Director of Food Distribution for the Department of Agriculture in 1994. Strong, kind, and gentle, Bill devoted his life to helping others. Through his gifts of love, understanding, and respect, he made a difference in the lives of the people he met.
Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years, Del; daughter Melissa and son-in-law Todd Dettman, grandsons Ethan and Jonah; daughter Wanda and son-in-law Mark Calder, grandson Chase and grand-daughter Allison. He is also survived by his mother, Melba Perry, sisters Kay Lefļ¬ngwell, Shirley Williams, and Alice Elkins, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends all of whom he cherished.
Funeral service 2pm Thursday at Massey Funeral Home in Zebulon
www.masseyfuneralhome.com. Interment will follow at Alford, Bunn, Upchurch Cemetery in Pilot. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 pm.
