Pearl Garten Zey5119 ABILENE — Pearl Zey, 89, Abilene, died Friday, July 3, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Zey was born Pearl Garten on Sept. 3, 1908, in the Sand Springs area and was a longtime resident of Abilene. She and her husband founded Zey's Markets in 1929, which she operated until retiring in 1970; opened one of Abilene's first locker plants; and raised cattle and farmed west of Abilene for many years. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Abilene.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Louis Joseph Zey in 1955, Beryl Chrisco and Wes Anderson; two daughters, Patricia Corley and Martha Cook; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Joe Zey of Abilene; six daughters, Pauline Sims, Louise Miller and Jane Veal, all of Abilene, Cecelia Sexton of Manhattan, Irene Glennon of Holt, Mo., and Linda Davis of Kansas City; 42 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Abilene, the Rev. Louis Mattas officiating. Burial will be in Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, Abilene.
A rosary will be said at 5 p.m. Sunday at Danner Funeral Home.
