This Venerable Lady Passed Away This Morning.

At six o'clock this morning occurred the death of Mrs. Susan R. Jones, wife of Elisha Jones, at her home, corner of Gibson and Monroe streets, aged 73 years. Mrs. Jones had been ill for some two years, but her condition was not considered serious until recently, when she suffered a second stroke of paralysis, which was tbe immediate cause of death. Besides the husband, there is left to mourn the loss of the mother, three sons and two daughters. One son, Thomas, has been at home for some time. The other sons reside at Sheridan, Ind, and Bennington, Kans., and arrived in the city last night to attend the bedside of the mother. The daughters reside at San Bernardino, Cal., and Kelly, New Mexico, and will be unable to be present at the funeral.

Mrs. Jones has long been a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and tbe funeral services will be held in that church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Landis officiating, assisted by Rev. Jenkins. Interment in I. O. O. F. cemetery.

The Jones Family came originally from Wales, probably as early as 1690. Zacarias, first known member of this family in America, lived in the State of Delaware. He m. Ellen Smith. Their children were:

4. Ebenezer, b Jan 8, 1764, in Delaware; m. Mary Roten, dau. Of Selma, or Sarah, (Vance) Roten. He was a Methodist preacher. He apparently moved to North Carolina at some time, for at least one of his fifteen children, Hullum, appears to have been born there, in or near Raleigh. He moved north again, for he d. In Davis County, Indiana, Mar. 9, 1862. His children were:

8. Hullum, b. Apr. 17, 1797, in or near Raleigh, N. C. He m. Sarah Kimball, dau. Of Jesse Kimball and Elizabeth Rolison (Roliffson). She was b. Mar. 14, 1796; had m. Jesse Kimball, son of her father’s brother Isaac, in Vincennes, Ind., on Nov. 11, 1811; after his death she m. Hullum Jones, Oct. 7, 1819. Their children were:

Elisha E. Jones, son of Hullum Jones, named above, was b. In Gibson County, Indiana. He m. Susan B. Lynn Ar. 23, 1845. She was b. In Gibson County, Ind. Dau. Of William and Elizabeth Wallace Lynn. Her mother was b. In Baltimore, Md. Dau of Arthur Wallace. The Lynns lived in Kentucky first, where William was a Cumberland Presbyterian preacher, but they moved to Indiana in 1826 or 1827, as his conscience disapproved of human slavery.

Hullum Jones and his wife died at the home of their son Elisha, and were buried in the old cemetery west of Owensville, Indiana.

The foregoing family history was written in 1892 by Elisha Ebenezer Jones. Since Elisha lived near his grandfather Ebenezer Jones and was over 40 years old when Ebenezer died, this information is presumbably first hand family knowledge.
