Notes for Lewis Milton (Spouse 1)
Lewis Jones moved from North Carolina to South Carolina and later joined his father and mother in Indiana.387

According to Jesse M. Jones,181 “During the year of 1840, Lewis Jones and his wife Rebecca (Raper-McDonald) Jones decided to migrate to Texas with four of their children, Maria and Hardy Jones, children by his second marriage to Anny (Brown) Jones; Pleasant Louis and William Enoch Jones, children by his third marriage to Rebecca (Raper-McDonald) Jones and his sister and her husband and several of their 13 children. The migration of these two families took several months and they arrived in the early part of 1841 after traveling about 1500 miles in Shelby County, TX. Joseph and Anna (Jones) Hobbs, Jr., were on their way to claim land in Bexar Co, TX, which was given to Joseph Hobbs, Jr., as a Bounty for Land for Military Services in the War of 1812 in Indiana. Joseph and Anna had a son William Preston Hobbs who remained with the Lewis Jones family in Shelby County TX to study to be a Methodist minister and was listed as staying and studying in the home of Lewis Jones (Louis Jones) in the 1850 US Census of Shelby Co TX. The reason Lewis Jones made the migration trip to Shelby County was good cheap land in Texas and a “money panic” was coming to that part of Indiana.
Notes for Lewis Milton (Spouse 1)
The family bible lists his name as LEWIS. He was married as Lewis, he served in the Indiana Legislature as Lewis, he purchased and sold much property around Washington IN as Lewis. After 1841, when he moved to Texas, he retired from public life and came to be known as either Lewis or Louis. The present day family in Texas call him Louis.

In about 1810 when the family property was sold, Lewis went to South Carolina to live with and help his older brother, William. Lewis and William's family ( William married ?) migrated in a wagon train to join their parents in 1812 but difficulties caused William's family to stop in Kentucky while Louis continued the journey.398 [Note that there is strong census evidence that William Jones, brother of Lewis, died as a child. The William Jones who lived in South Carolina in the early 1800s was not the brother of Lewis Jones.]
