Notes for James Jones
John Jones’ will states that James Jones is weak in sense and not capable of managing his own affairs. His brothers, Jonathan and Nathan, are to supply him with raimant and care for him. In return they are bequeathed a 400 acre plantation to be equally divided, also 100 acres in St. Paul's Parish.

There is an interesting story about this James Jones in The Annals of Newberry, by John Belton O'Neal, Charleston, SC, Courtenay & Co, 1859; “the town of Newberry,SC stands upon lands originally granted to John Jones, shown by a visit there in 1819 by James Jones, an idiot, aged 70-80, who came from GA and who stated that his father had originally lived thereabouts. [John Belton O’Neal was a prominent judge in Newberry until his death in 1863. Among his many accomplishments is The Annals of Newberry, an early history of the county.]
