Notes for Henry (Spouse 1)
Henry and Deborah Thornton migrated from London to America in about 1660. They settled in North Farnham Parish, about 60 miles NE of Richmond, VA.1054

The following account is taken from the book by Ariel Crowley, as related by Richard S. Thornton:1055

“Mrs. Crowley’s research found that Henry married Deborah Scoper, daughter of Michael and Elizabeth Scoper on Nov 18, 1652 in St. Margarets, Westminster section of London. They had five boys, Luke born 1655, William born around 1656, John born around 1657, Henry, & Thomas. In 1656, just before John was born, Henry left his pregnant wife for a trip the America. He must have returned because Henry was born in Westminster. Their last son, Thomas, who had a distinguished career as a physician, was born around 1685 in Virginia. The family settled in North Farnham Parish, north of the Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Potomac River in Richmond County.”

[Note by Clayton Heathcock, 29 Sep 2011: If Deborah Scoper Thornton was born in 1635, she would have been 50 years old when Thomas was born in 1685. This is not impossible, but unlikely. Possibly the last son was by a 2nd wife of Henry Thornton.]

Note by Clayton Heathcock, 21 Dec 2018: A Hen Thornton was one of 83 persons transported by George Chapman, who obtained 4150 acres in Pawunkey Necke, New Kent County.1056
