Notes for Tyre (Spouse 1)
BOUNTY LAND CLAIM:316 On 23 April 1855, Elizabeth Harris (61 years), widow of Tyre Harris, a resident of Gwinnett County, GA, filed a Bounty Land Claim based on her dec'd. husband's service in the Georgia Militia. He was a private in the Company commanded by Captain William Starnes (?), Georgia Militia, in the War with Creek Indians. Tyre volunteered on 1 August 1812 and was honorably discharged at Camp Hope on the first day of October 1812 on account of sickness. An AFFIDAVIT OF WITNESSES was submitted with the Bounty Land Claim. It was dated 23 April 1855 and was signed by William D. Harris & Henry L. Edwards. Both witnesses swear that they served in the same Regiment with Tyre Harris and William D. Harris was in the same Company. Henry L. Edwards swore that he was present at the marriage of Tyre Harris and Elizabeth Edwards.

(NOTE from Billie Etchells) William D.'s signature is so shaky, it is almost illegible as was to be expected for a man of 83 years at that time. This document adds a few more years to the known life of William D. Harris. Henry L. Edwards was Elizabeth's brother and his signature is also done with a trembling hand but is more legible than Wm. D. Harris’.
