Notes for John (Spouse 1)
There are extensive records of John Hathcock, son of Samuel Hathcock. For further details, see the chapter by Douglas Hathcock.529

He first appears in the records as one of the sons of S. Haithcock (Samuel) in the 1790 census of Clarmont Co SC. This part of Clarmont Co became part of Kershaw Co SC in 1798 and in the 1800 census of Kershaw Co, John Heathcock is recorded near his father, Samuel Heathcock and his uncle, John Heathcock Sr.

John Heathcock: 1 male 20-26; 1 male 0-10 (James); 1 female 20-26 (Mary); 1 female 0-10.

About 1808, John and Mary Hathcock, along with Hathcock relatives, moved to Bedford Co TN. He appears on the Bedford Co Tax and Militia List in 1812.

About 1819, John Hathcock, his family, and most of his relatives moved to Bibb Co AL, where they settled in the northwest corner of the county, close to the Tuscaloosa Co line. There are numerous records of land transactions involving John Hathcock in this county in the 1820s and 1830s.

The family appears on the 1830 census of Bibb Co AL as follows:

John Hathcock: 1 male 50-60; 1 male 5-10 (Ransom); 2 males 10-15 (William Stanford and Fern); 1 male 15-20 (Wiley J.); 2 males 20-30 (Seaborn and Alfred); 1 female 50-60 (Mary); 1 female 15-20.

John last appears in written records in the 1840 census of Bibb Co AL:

John Hathcock: 1 male 60-70; 1 male 15-20 (Ransom); 2 males 20-30 (William Stanford and Fern); 1 female 50-60 (Mary); 1 female 20-30.

In the 1840 census, two of John’s sons, Seaborn Hathcock and Wiley J. Hathcock, were living nearby.

John appears to have died between 1840 and 1845. His sons and widow all moved to Tippah Co MS and Mary is listed in Pontotoc Co MS in the 1850 census.
