MERRILL LOREN GATES. Funeral services for little Merrill Loren Gates, two-year-old son of Mr and Mrs Terrell F. Gates of San Antonio, were conducted at the local cemetery last Saturday morning. The death of this little fellow followed an illness of several days which was diagnosed by physicians as pneumonia.
The child was born in San Antonio December 23, 1934, and at the time of his death was two years, one month and 20 days old. He is survived by his parents, one brother, Terrell F. Gates, Jr., his paternal grandmother, Mrs Winnie Gates of San Marcos and his maternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs Merrill W. Smith of Stockdale.
Services were conducted at the cemetery by Rev. J. W. Storms, a former pastor of the local
Baptist Church and a long-time resident of this section. Previous to that Dr. Webb, pastor of the First Baptist Church of San Antonio, conducted prayer services at the residence.
Heaps of gorgeous flowers adorned the little grave and many from both Stockdale and other places were in attendance. Mr Gates' school principal and other teachers of the San Antonio school system were present, and relatives and friends from San Marcos, Beeville and Lytle were also in attendance.
Little could be said that would assuage the grief in which the parents and other relatives of this little child are held. We do extend to them our deepest tribulation, and remind them of the Master when he said:
"Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto Me; for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven."
