Melvin Jackson, 76, 2810 Ridgeview, died in Medical City Hospital Dallas Wednesday Dec 28. Services will be held at 2 Friday Dec 30 at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev Tom Brown officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 Thursday night at the funeral home. Mr Jackson was born Sept 10 1912 in Milton, a son of James Albert and Alma Bell Jackson. He attended Deport and Paris schools and Paris High School. He married Mary Gunn on June 14 1931. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army with the 97th Engineering Division. He worked for Howerton Motor Co as parts manager for 25 years, retiring in 1973. He later worked at the Lamar County Sheriffs Office. He was a member of the Deport Masonic Lodge and of the Calvary United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs Horace Billie Penn of Rt 1 Paris, one son Gary M Jackson of Paris, five grandchildren, Deborah Heineman of Fort Gordon, Robert James Jackson, of Camp Pendleton, Dr Charles Melvin Lay of Sulphur Springs, Billie Diane Warren of Tyler, and James Michael Lay of Paris; five greatgrandchildren, and two cousins, James Jackson of Paris and Mrs Vernon Shuford of Port Neches.
