ROBERT W. WALKER SR.

WARE NECK - Robert William Walker Sr., 79, a Hampton resident for 65 years, died Monday, Nov. 15.

Mr. Walker owned and operated Paramount Cleaners, Hampton, for more than 30 years. He then taught in Mathews County schools for five years and retired in 1978 as assistant superintendent after five years with the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind.

A member of Singletons Methodist Church, Gloucester, he was a former member of First United Methodist Church, Hampton. He was active with the Literacy Volunteers of Gloucester. He served as a lieutenant in the Navy during World War II.

Survived by his wife, Lillie C. Walker; two sons, Robert William Walker Jr. of Urbanna and George Burbank Walker of Athern, Ala.; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Visitation from 7 to 8 tonight at Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home, Hampton. Graveside service 11 a.m. Friday in Greenlawn Cemetery, Newport News, by the Rev. William L. Vann.

Funeral services for Lillie King Chambers Walker, 86, were held Saturday, Dec. 1, in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton, Va., by the Rev. William R. Kyle Jr. She died Nov. 25 at Sanders Nursing Home in Gloucester, Va. Mrs. Walker was born in Haywood County, Tenn., in 1915 to Dr. and Mrs. John Maim Chambers. She was a longtime Hampton resident where she was a member of First United Methodist Church, a teacher and librarian. After retirement, she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Walter Reed Hospital and with Gloucester Public Library.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Buddy" William Walker, and is survived by two sons, Robert W. Walker Jr. and George Walker of Mathews; her niece, Carol Watts; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Lillie Chambers was first engaged to Joseph Albert Kinney, but this engagement did not lead to a marriage.

Dr. and Mrs. John Mann Chambers announce the engagement of their daughter, Lillie King Chambers to Joseph Albert Kinney, aerologist with the United States Navy. Mr. Kinney is the on of Alfred H. Kinney. The wedding will take place August 5.3668
