Mrs. B. W. Pruet Died in Anniston Tuesday4071

Mrs. Vernie Pruet, wife of Bennett W. Pruet of Anniston, died at her home in that city Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock after a long illness, and the funeral was held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock followed by interment in Highland cemetery, Anniston.

Mrs. Pruet was born, reared and educated in Ashland and after her marriage to Mr Pruet continued to reside here until about 1915 when she moved with her family to Gadsden where they resided several years before moving to Anniston.

Mrs. Pruet was the daughter of Mrs. Lou Allen, and a sister of J. Y., J. H. and M. L. Allen all of Ashland. She is also survived by her husband and six children two sons and four daughters.

Quite a group of her relatives and friends from Ashland attended the funeral Wednesday afternoon .

B. W. Pruet, Former Clay Countian Dies4072

Bennett W. Pruet, postmaster of Anniston since 1938, died in Birmingham hospital on February 9th. Mr. Pruet was bom in Clay County, the son of Mr. Wilbome Pruet, and began his distinguished career in business in Ashland. Mr. Pruets first wife was the former Vernie Allen of Ashland. After completing his education, Mr. Pruet taught school, operated a stole and organized the First National Bank of Ashland. While a resident of Ashland, he served as mayor and was also chairman of the building committee which, erected the Ashland Baptist Church. After leaving Ashland, he occupied the following positions of honor and distinction: Executive vice preisdent of the First National Bank of Gadsden, president of The Anniston National Bank, president of the Alabama Bankers Association, and vice president of the American Bankers Association. He was later connected with the Federal Administration and became postmaster of Anniston, Alabama, in 1938. Mr. Pruet served in many active capacities in both civic, social and religious affairs of the communities in which he lived. He was noted for his integrity, high moral character, and pleasing personality. His type of life would be worthy of the following of others. Few men are able to contribute to their communities as much as Mr. Pruet. He is survived by his wife, four daughters, two sons, two brothers and one sister. His brothers, Messrs. C. M. and Francis Pruet and sister, Mrs. Linnie Horn, are residents of Clay County.
