Notes for William Henry Davis
Wm H Davis was the grandson of a Revolutionary War veteran and himself a Confederate veteran.

(Information from bio in "History of Texas", Lewis Pub Co.):

Of Welch family origin, his great grandfather (name unknown) came from Wales to Virginia, raising his family there and providing four sons - Matthew, John, Jonathan and Samuel - who fought in the Revolutionary War.

Wm H's grandfather, Samuel, born in Westmoreland, VA, moved to Burke, NC after the war, married and raised 4 sons and 4 daughters - including Samuel Jr. - Wm H's father.

Samuel Davis Jr, married Eliza Morris Sep 16, 1824 and William Henry Davis was born 15 Apr 1827. Sarah "Sally" Davis was born abt 1829. Wm Henry's mother died when he was only two and a half years old. (Possibly in childbirth).

After his mother's death, Wm Henry remained with is father for 8 years, then went to live with other relatives and last made his home with his grandfather Hal Morris until Hal's death.

In 1842, Wm moved to Gilmer, GA, and on Oct 28, 1847 he married Miss Sarah Ann Osborn, daughter of Newman and Judith (Harris) Osborn. Wm & Sarah, along with many family and friends, moved by wagon and ox cart to Erath Co., TX in 1856 where they farmed and raised a family of 12 children.
