J.C. Awalt, 59 years old, of 111S North Fourth street, died at midnight last night in the Halstead hospital, members of the family here were informed today. Mr. Awalt had been ill about six months and was taken to Halstead for treatment Saturday morning. He died from a heart attack, relatives were told in a message from that town.
Mr. Awalt, a native of Marysville, Mo., was a retired farmer. He lived in Arkansas City 10 years, coming here from Braman, Okla., where he had lived on a farm many years, and was known over Kay county as one of that section's most substantial citizens.
Surviving relatives are the wife and 8 children. The children are Fred, Braman, Okla.; Charles, Los Angeles, Calif.; Frank and Clifford Awalt, Arkansas City; Mrs. Ruth Coulson, Amarillo, Tex.; Mrs. Mary Wilson and Mrs. Hester Winters, both of Halstead and Mrs. D.A. Hadley, Arkansas City.
The body will be brought here for burial. Mr. Awalt was a director in the Santa Fe Building and Loan association of this city.
No arrangements had been made for the funeral services and burial this afternoon.

MRS. JAMES (JESSIE) AWALT, 100, of 1600 S. Woodlawn, died Friday. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in College Hill United Methodist Church. Survivors include three sons, Fred, Yates Center, Kan., Charles, Wagoner, Okla., and Frank, Joplin, Mo., and two daughters, Mrs. Mary Huebert, Halstead, Kan., and Mrs. Ruth Coulson, Fort Worth, Tex. Downing East Mortuary has charge.
