Hadley, Jack C. “Bump”, 85, passed away December 30, 2009. Born August 3, 1924 to Dan and Lola Hadley in Arkansas City, KS and graduated from Ark City High School in 1942 where he excelled in baseball. He joined the Army Air Corps and saw duty as a navigator on a “Mitchell Liberator B-24” in North Africa. Upon his discharge with the rank of sergeant, he returned to Ark City and worked as a delivery driver for Mauer-Newer Packing Plant. He also participated on the Company’s baseball team and held the distinction of hitting the first home run out of the Ark City Ball Park and participated in the young National Baseball Congress Tournament in Wichita for several years. In 1949, he was offered a contract with the former Brooklyn Dodgers but declined the offer to stay in Kansas to raise his family. He later lived in Tulsa, OK where he was a food broker for Love & Law Company, Carnation and Kimberly Clark. His parents, and his beloved wife of 45 years, Roberta, preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters; Janice L. Miller (Robert) of Wichita and Debra L. Puent of Andover; granddaughter, Samantha M. Puent of Manhattan, KS; brother, Roy E. Hadley (Fran) of Huntington Beach, CA; sister, Marge Benjamin of Wichita along with several nieces and nephews in California and Kansas. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at Cochran Mortuary, 1411 N. Broadway and a graveside service in Tulsa, OK.
