Notes for Sarah F. “Sallie” Green
Shirt Tail Kin says that Sarah married a Williams.
299 Frances Lay Heathcock told me that she married a man named Ford and the 1915 obituary of Matilda Huff Green listed survivors including “Mrs. S. Ford of San Antonio”. In 2015 I learned much more from Becky Williams Harrell, her GG granddaughter. Becky told me that her GG grandmother Sarah (Sallie) Fannie Green married Alfred Jasper (A.J.) Williams at the First Baptist Church in San Antonio on 27 October 1882, that the couple had three children, one of which died at the age of two, that Sallie Greene Williams was apparently divorced from A. J. Williams and remarried to F. T. Ford about 1900.
1438In a 1917 letter from Sarah’s sister Frankie Green Dubbs to Mary Lou Scoggin Goff, Frankie wrote:
“Sister Sallie is in the hospital operated on for a tumor, weighed 8 lbs. She had never been sick untill (sic) she had this.” For the full letter, see notes under Mary Francis “Frankie” Green Dubbs.
Sarah died before 27 March 1931 because she was not listed as a surviving sister in the obituary of her sister, Nancy Jane Green Lay.
The Texas Death Index records a death for a Sarah Ford in Bowie Co on 17 Jul 1929 and for a Mrs. Sarah Ford in Camp Co on 31 Jul 1928.
13 However, Becky Williams Harrell says that Sarah died in San Antonio and is buried in an unmarked grave at Mission Cemetery.
