George Brewer was son of Matthew Brewer, who died in Marengo county on 28 August 1832. The nuncupative will of Matthew Brewer mentions only his wife Polly (Mary) and his son George, to whom he left a negro woman by the name of Bat and Abram her son.
252 George appears to have died in about 1842/3 from entries in the Marengo County Court Minutes:
• page 293, March Term 1842. Cite Furney Manaly, adm. estate of George Brewer.
• Page 322, April Term 1842. Citation returned marked not found.
• Page 483, 3 April 1843. Est. George Brewer, cite Furney Manly.
• Page 511, 29 April 1843, Est. George Brewer, continued.
Similar continued entries appeared on 3 July 1843, Sept 1843, Oct 1843, Nov 1843, Jan 1844, Feb 1844 and Mar 1844, at which time the court apparently gave up trying to find Furney Manley.
A lot of confusion has resulted from the fact that there were two different Matthew Brewers who lived in Alabama at the came general time.
Mathew H Brewer was b in SC and d in Choctaw County, AL 1853. He was m to Elizabeth Hampton. His son was George W. Brewer
Mathew Brewer was b in Georgia and d in Marengo County, AL1832. He was m to Mary Elizabeth Hammond. His son was George Brewer.
Mathew H Brewer and Matthew Brewer were two separate men who resided in the same area at the same time.
Kind regards,
A. J. Brewer Taylor
