Various internet genealogies give the names Thomas Hill and Margaret Wyke or Wykes as the parents of Nicholas Hill. Most of these do not give any sources and some of the vital data provided in many is ridiculous. One website, for example, asserts that Thomas Hill was b. 1584, Margaret Wykes was b. 1589, and that they were married 4 May 1595, when Thomas would have been 11 and Margaret would have been 6!
1889 However, it is my opinion that the main source is a book by Ann L. McCarthy entitled “The Hill Family of Chowan County, North Carolina,” published privately in 1990. It is clearly stated by Anne McCarthy in her book that Nicholas was the son of Thomas Hill and Margaret Wykes.
1867 Furthermore, the book contains an extensive genealogy of Margaret Wykes, going back to the 13th century
1890 and I have been able to verify much from other sources.

There was at least one other Nicholas HIll in England in this time frame, as children with a father named Nicholas Hill were christened in London (John Hill, 21 Aug 1599; Mary Hill, 3 May 1601), Huntingdonshire (Dorytee Hill, 12 Jan 1605; Mildred Hill, 10 Jul 1608), Surrey (Elizabeth Hill, 1 Aug 1600), Derbyshire (Maria Hill, 19 Feb 1606).
