Florine (Nolen) Hollan

Florine (Nolen) Hollan, age 85, of Fowlerton, Texas went to be with her Lord on Friday, April 3, 2009, in Pleasanton, Texas. Florine enjoyed life to the fullest, loving and caring for her husband, children, family and friends. She also relished the time she spent oil painting, playing music on the piano and organ, quilting, cooking for family get-togethers as well as helping her family in the cattle shipping business. She was born on February 19, 1924 to Warren and Loudell Nolen. She married the love of her life, Hubert Hollan on December 8, 1945. Together they raised four children, as well as working together in the livestock trucking business. Florine worked actively for 61 years in the livestock hauling business, until the death of her husband Hubert in 2005. They started the business in 1934 under the name of H.S. Hollan and Son, then changed the name to Hollan Brothers and finally ran the business under the name of Hubert Hollan Trucks. Despite working in the livestock hauling business, Florine found time to teach piano lessons in Atascosa, La Salle and McMullen counties. She also cared for many elderly people during her lifetime, all the while caring for her family and the business. Florine enjoyed traveling with Hubert through out the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Mrs. Hollan also served her country as a member of the Civil Service during World War II and was stationed at Bergstrom Air Fore Base in Austin, Texas. She is survived by her children, David Hollan and wife Kathy of Longview, Darrell Hollan and wife Joyce of Pleasanton, Leroy Hollan and wife Debbie of Fowlerton and Carolyn Mangum and husband Bill of Pleasanton. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Tori Bjornholm and husband Mark of Keller, Weston Mangum of Pleasanton, Lesa O’Donnell and husband Will of Kerrville, Sara Hollan of Dallas, Katherine Hollan of La Porte and Tracy Smith and husband Jason Longview; great grandchild, Morgan Smith, as well as her brother and sister, Dorothy Billington and husband Bob of Louise and Bill Nolen and wife Doris of El Campo. She is preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Loudell Nolen; husband, Hubert Hollan; brothers, Melvin, George and Don Nolen; sister, Bea Hollan; grandson, Ricky Hollan and granddaughter, Baby Mangum. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, 118 West Oaklawn Road, Pleasanton from 2:00PM - 8:00PM on Monday, April 6, 2009. A funeral service will be held at 10:00AM, on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Hurley Funeral Home (Pleasanton). Interment will be at the Nockenut Cemetery in Stockdale, Texas.

Hubert Samuel Hollan of Fowlerton, Texas passed away February 11, 2005 in the Nix Hospital in San Antonio. He was born September 17, 1919 at Terriville, Texas. At 85 years old Hubert was still doing what he loved best, hauling cattle, trucking all over Texas. He proudly served his country in WWII. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Florine Nolen Hollan of Fowlerton; three sons, David Hollan and wife Kathy of Longview, Darrell Hollan and wife Joyce of Pleasanton, Leroy Hollan and wife Debbie of Fowlerton and one daughter Carolyn Hollan Mangum and husband Bill of Pleasanton; grandchildren, Tori Mangum Bjornholm and husband Mark of Fort Worth, Weston Mangum of Pleasanton, Lesa Hollan O'Donnell and husband Will of Kerrville, Sara Hollan of Dallas, Katherine Hollan of La Port, Tracey Hollan Smith and Jason of Tyler; two brothers, Neill Hollan and wife Lottie of Tilden, Royce Hollan and wife Mildred of San Antonio; one sister, Clarice Johnson Quinn of San Antonio and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Richard Eugene Hollan and a sister, Otho Stanfield. Services were held Monday, February 14, 2005 at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Burial was at Knockernut Cemetery in Stockdale on the family farm. Pallbearers were Nixon Dillard, Chip Briscoe, Tommy Kendrick, Jamie Donnell, Mickey Williams and Steve Mafrige.
